All is Calm, All is Bright

Today is the first Sunday of Advent.
I have spent the last week painting a 2’ x 4’ canvas that will be enlarged by a company into an
8’x 16’ banner that will serve as a backdrop for the Christmas Eve program at our church.
It’s called “All is Calm, All is Bright”. It’s Bethlehem just before the star emerges and
Christ enters the world. I hope you have a wonderful season.

This year I revisited the theme of the Angels appearing to the Shepherds. These are the results. How wonderful to contemplate that pivotal moment in history. There isn't a Star described in Luke, but over the years the star has become linked with this occasion. Matthew tells of the Magi and the Star, but not the Angels and Shepherds. The salvation story is a mystery.

IN THY DARK STREETS SHINETH

This is another part of the series ADVENT STARRY NIGHT that I've been exploring for years. This one is inside Bethelhem and based on the first verse of 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'

"O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight"

MORNING STARS TOGETHER

MORNING STARS TOGETHER Virginia Wieringa 2013

I never tire of thinking about the sky on the night Christ was born. As you can see on my website I've already done nine pieces in this series. This one is based on the second verse of  'O Little Town of Bethlehem'

For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And Peace to all on earth

This is an assortment of images I've created with an Advent, Christmas and Epiphany theme. I'm honored when churches ask to use my images and I am happy to share them. However, as it says in Luke 10:7    "the laborer is worthy of their hire" and is repeated in 1 Timothy 5:18, "The worker deserves their  pay." For a fee, I am willing to send you a high quality image for use on program and bulletin covers. You can email me at: vwieringa@gmail.com Of course, the high resolution image I send will be for one use or one season and will come without the 'watermark' of my name and copyright.
