ABSTRACTIONS
I'm back at the Franciscan Center in Lowell, MI again this week. This time, I'm taking a workshop with a wonderful artist and super teacher named Linda Baker. I'm completing compositions on some unresolved paintings that I started in another workshop with Kathleen Conover last fall. It's cool to have the underpaintings done and to work on them after such a while. They are very textural and layered. It's like coming at them with new eyes. It's very exciting and when I have time to photograph the ones I've taken closer to completion, I'll do some posting.

PLEIN AIR AT THE FRANCISCAN CENTER
I was able to go to the Franciscan Life Process Center yesterday for a day of plein air painting and guess what was in bloom! I guess I'm NOT done with poppies! I took some cool photos too!
These are a little dark. Gotta figure out how to get more accurate colors in full sun!! And the acrylic paint dries too quick. May have to transition to oils. It was a wonderful day to be outside and there were some wonderful artists out there also working. Great day!

WEST VIRGINA POPPIES
This will probably complete the poppy theme for a while since their season is coming to an end and we're coming to the end of my paintings of poppies! We were vacationing in West Virginia a couple of years ago when we came upon this array of poppies, bachelor buttons and some yellow flower I didn't know, growing in the median with the mountains as a backdrop.

PLEIN AIR + ALLA PRIMA
These paintings were done in Onekama, MI this week on the grounds of Camp Tosebo, on the shores of Portage Lake. The first two are plein air which means they were done outside. They were all done alla prima which means at first ~ each done in one sitting of about 1/2 an hour. The sunset was done from memory after an intense show at the end of the day. It doesn't even come close. They aren't going to break any ground in the art world and the photos aren't the best, but they remind me of the joy of being quiet and focused in that setting. I present these as color sketches of the experience.
