Goin' to the dogs!
I was asked if I wanted to try painting a dog portrait and I thought I'd give it a try. Actually I had a lot of fun painting this sweet Australian shepherd face and the person who commissioned it is satisfied. This will go to the owner for her birthday. This dog is recently deceased so it should be a poignant present. Her eyes remind me of my old black lab who was a joy in my life. Notice the reflections in the eyes are actually little hearts. Cutsie? Maybe but also fun.

Just one criticism, V., only because it is most prominent to me - the dog's eyes are a little too cross-eyed - but maybe that's the way he was though, and if the owners are happy, that's what it's all about. Yes, the hearts are cutsie, but are so appropriate for this work because of the humor in the dog's expression and his stance...I love that detail.
Yep, Nikki, you know your puppies. You do animals so well. This critter was a little cross eyed. I think because the camera was so close to her face.
