My latest quilt project was a queen sized disappearing nine patch quilt. The top picture shows the traditional nine patch. To make a disappearing nine patch, the 9 patch is cut in 1/2 both vertically and diagonally. It can create lots of lovely patterns with a limited palette of fabrics, but for mine, I chose to have lots of colors and novelty prints that would be at home in an eclectic cabin in Northern Michigan and few lined up seams. There are fish, deer, birds, ducks, pheasants, flowers, leaves and lots of wonderful prints. I love this quilt concept, but I'll never do a queen sized again!

I love this blanket! What size are the blocks after you cut them apart...they look like they might be 8"-10" across...did you do a tutorial on what size squares to sew together before cutting them apart?

Sorry Tricia. This was many quilts ago! I haven’t done a tutorial. I’m thinking the original squares were 5 inches. Thanks for your kind comments.

I don’t have any idea. I’m an exuberant quilter. I’ve thought of starting another blog called ‘quilting by the seat of my pants’ or ‘the happy haphazard quilter’. I’m organized when I need to be, but when fabric is on sale, or I find I need more blocks to finish a quilt, I just go for it. I just pulled a variety of colors and textures and cut 5” squares. I had lots of leftovers for other quilts.
